An image of the Hannah Zakari Shop in 2013

When the pandemic hit I was thrown into a bit of a panic. At that point I had already been making tentative steps to close the ‘bricks and mortar’ part of my business, Hannah Zakari (pictured above in 2013) in Edinburgh in the latter half 2021, so I was faced with the decision to stick with that plan or bring it forward. When government announced that financial help was going to be made available I was so relieved (and actually quite surprised!) to have a bit of breathing space, but faced with the uncertainty of the circumstances, ultimately I decided to close the HZ shop in October of 2020 and have been running the website on my own since then. I knew that I wanted to take things in a slightly different direction though, and wondered if Hannah Zakari was the right platform for that.

Since around the time of the shop closing, dot&hana has been rolling around in my head. My daydream is to have a business that is small and focussed, something I can run by myself in a small studio and still feel creative rather than worrying about VAT returns and whether I've under or over-ordered for xmas. I'm also learning about mentoring and considering offering that alongside small business consultation in future. Maybe. We’ll see how it goes… If you’d like to be a guinea pig mentee, do let me know and we can try to figure it out.

dot&hana is a space where I can make stuff that I enjoy making and write about stuff I like. So, on dot&hana you will find my own work and on this blog you will find thoughts, inspiration and nice things… and probably some gardening stuff (I have a lot of nice photos from my garden to share). I really hope you like it!

With love,

Rachael x
